Curriculum Newsletter

Term 6

In this newsletter you will find some information about what is happening in Puffin, Owl and Robin classes this term.

This term's topic is ‘Enchanted Forest'

Term 6 has had a very exciting start with the whole school trip and Sports Day. This term our topic is called Enchanted Forest! Over the next few weeks, we will be following up on the things we discovered and looked at on the school trip. We will be learning about woodlands and other habitats. In geography we will be looking at how our school environment is different or similar to the places we visited. We will be looking at maps, making maps and the older children will be learning about co-ordinates. In Science we will be looking at British animals and plants. We are hoping to make the most of the good weather to get out into the school grounds to do some of our learning. In addition to this we will be learning about electricity and light.

In Numeracy, as well as our usual number skills work and maths investigations, we will also be doing lots of measuring. This will include weight, length, capacity and time. In Literacy we will be following the enchanted forest theme by looking at imaginative, fantasy stories. The older children will also be looking at nonsense poetry and particularly poems by Spike Milligan.

Home Learning

•·        Daily reading experience

•·        Word walls

•·        1 other piece weekly

Home learning will be set on a Thursday. Please return it the following Tuesday. Please remind your child to take their homework out of their book bag themselves and hand it in to be marked, thank you.

PE days

The majority of P.E will be outdoors this term. Please remember to send your child with the correct PE kit and no earrings.  There are still many children without a P.E Kit and appropriate footwear. P.E. kits and plimsolls should be in school at all times. We are happy for children to bring in trainers but only if they can tie their own laces. Please check that your child's plimsolls or trainers fit properly.

Puffin Class:    Tuesday & Friday

Owl Class:      Wednesday & Friday

Robin Class:  Monday & Thursday

Class Assembly

Owl class assembly is on 24th June and Robin Class Assembly is on 8th July. We hope to see lots of you there!

Summer sun! (fingers crossed!)

As the weather warms up please make sure that all children have applied sun cream before school and have a named bottle of sun cream in school that they can apply themselves. Named, sun hats are also necessary during sunny weather. Please make sure that your child brings in a named, water bottle every day. This must contain water and not juice.

We are all so excited about the work we have planned for this final term of the year and are looking forward to sharing it with you at our open afternoon in July.

Kind regards

The Key Stage 1 Team
