Medicines
As a general rule children who are taking medication are unlikely to be well enough to be in school. However, occasionally the doctor may prescribe a course of treatment such as antibiotics that means that your child is fit enough to return to school towards the end of the course but may still need medication to be given in school. If this is the case, school is prepared to administer the medication provided:
- A Medication Permission form has been completed and signed (a copy can be obtained in the office)
- The medicine is handed to the school office in a suitable named container, together with a spoon, if appropriate,
All medicines are kept in a secure area. Therefore medicines such as aspirin, cough sweets, etc must not be given to your child to be kept by them.
Some children suffer from asthma and may have need of an inhaler. Parents are asked to discuss their children's needs in this respect with the school so that suitable arrangements can be made for storage and administration. A Medication Permission form must also be completed and signed.
Occasionally a child may have a specialised medical difficulty requiring particular measures to be taken by the school. If this is the case, please discuss the matter with the school.
