Our Work
Term 1:
Coming soon: Watch this space for examples of our work from the new term. Meanwhile, have a look below at some of the topics we covered previously.
Term 6

Our work this term has been inspired by our fantastic trip to Riverside Country Park. Although the weather on the day was cool, we had a great day exploring the many different habitats.
During the walk to Horrid Hill we spotted many oyster catchers. Back at school we studied our photographs and painted them with watercolours.
Standing on the shore line at Riverside Country Park, we had a wonderful view of Kingsnorth Power Station. Back at school we have been learning more about electricity. We have made electrical circuits and investigated which materials conduct electricity.
During our class assembly, we will be sharing this terms work with parents, friends and teachers.
In Literacy this term we have looked at stories set in forests and have also learning about nonsense poems. Nonsense poems are fun to read. They often rhyme, have strange things happening in them and many include made up words. Our favourite nonsense poem is ‘the ning, nang, nong' by Spike Milligan. We have learned it as a performance poetry piece accompanied by musical sound effects. If you would like to hear a recording of Spike Milligan performing the ning nang nong please visit the website poetryarchive.org.
We have made up our own verses and phrase of ‘the ning, nang, nong'. We have performed them to our class.
On the biggy baggy bong,
The tigers go gong,
And the leaves go liggy iggy loo,
On the biggy baggy bong,
The giant goes pong,
What a silly thing to do! by Ella
Term 5
This terms topic is ‘Ugly Bug Ball. We have been looking at the minibeasts that live in our local school environment. As a class we thought of all of the questions we wanted answering about minibeasts, as well as how we could find out more!
We have been looking at the internet, non fiction books and real minibeasts to investigate.
In literacy we have written factfiles for an invented minibeast. From this we went on to write some longer characterisations to describe our new beast! Some of our invented minibeasts are venomous predators!
In science we have been sorting minibeasts into groups by comparing their features. We have also looked carefully at the lifecycles of some minibeasts.
In music we have looked closely at the way that different minibeasts move in order to compose our own music. We have chosen musical instruments to represent different types of movements and different things that a minibeast might do. Later in the term we will be performing our compositions and improving them.
In art we have used the painting ‘The Snail' by Matisse as a starting point to investigate spirals. We created our own snail pictures and looked closely at large photographs of snail shells. We have created our own spirals using a range of media.

Term 4
This terms topic is ‘Mexico'. We have been finding out where it is and what life is like there. Mexico has deserts, mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, cities and farmland. We have been finding out what these different places are like.
In Literacy we have been reading and writing instructions. We read a recipe for making guacamole which is a Mexican dish. We all helped to make our own. If you want to make it yourself follow our instructions. You will need avocados, tomatoes, onion and coriander.
We tasted our guacamole on tortilla crisps.

In numeracy we have been using right angle munchers to find right angles around the classroom and the school. There are so many right angles around when you start looking for them. How many can you find where you are?
